What do you currently do?
I’m the managing director of Limited Space, the leading out of home media owner in UK shopping malls. I lead a small team of experienced and dedicated people who believe in what we are trying to achieve in the out of home advertising market place.
What is your inspiration in business?
My inspiration comes from a number of key people in my life:
My wife, who’s a true entrepreneur with the vision and self belief to create a product and brand out of nothing and the passion to make others believe in her and that brand.
My father, who used his passion, commitment and hard work ethic to climb a ladder to the top of his field that far exceeded his skill set and qualifications.
Whom do you admire?
I admire all of those individuals and businesses who’ve risked everything to achieve something that they believe in. I admire those who do not stop or take no for an answer and who have the drive and motivation to be positive when times are tough.
Looking back, are there things you would have done differently?
Although we learn a considerable amount from our mistakes I’m not one to look back and dwell on what we should have done. The mistakes we made have led us to the point where we are now and therefore were necessary in our development. Getting the right advice and having similarly minded people around you and working with you is an integral element of becoming a success and if I would change anything it would be to get these people in place much sooner.
What defines your way of doing business?
Having respect for client’s time, money and objectives. Providing solutions that are effective and deliver results. Understanding our product, environment and industry.
Having the right people working with us who want to become part of our vision.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
Make sure the business is ready to invoice from day one, this means you have to have all of the finer details in place before you launch and preferably at least one client. Having an idea is a big part of the battle but it will fall down quickly if you do not have the systems or finance in place to make it work. Have the right people giving you advice from day one – you don’t always have to take that advice but it’s important to have someone who’s been there and can be your sounding board. Having belief in your product or brand is important but you must make sure you can back that emotion up with fact. Don’t forget why you started your own business, it can be easy to get lost along the way and lose your vision!
